Cove for a Cause

{ All images and info from site: here }

Dolphins can understand about 90 commands of American Sign Language but humans do not yet understand one word of dolphin language.

Academy Award® Winner for Best Documentary of 2009, THE COVE follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers as they embark on a covert mission to penetrate a remote and hidden cove in Taiji, Japan, shining a light on a dark and deadly secret.

Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery, adding up to an unforgettable story that has inspired audiences worldwide to action

Dolphins are the only known wild animals that will come to the rescue of a human being. In the OPS film David Rastovich, probably the best-known free surfer in the world, tells how he was rescued from a shark attack by a bottlenose dolphin. On a dive trip to Rangiroa in Polynesia, a pod of resident dolphins playing in the deep blue around director Louie Psihoyos left suddenly to attack and push away an approaching large great hammerhead shark.

The Story
The Cove exposes the slaughter of more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises off the coast of Japan every year, and how their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is sold as food in Japan and other parts of Asia, often labeled as whale meat. The majority of the world is not aware this is happening.
The Solution
The focus of the Social Action Campaign for The Cove is to create worldwide awareness of this annual practice as well as the dangers of eating seafood contaminated with mercury, and to pressure those in power to put an end to the slaughter.
The Results
It’s been working. The film has been making waves since it premiered last year. Critical praise and audience awards worldwide have focused international attention on Taiji and the annual dolphin drives off the coast of Japan. Under intense pressure, Taiji called for a temporary ban on killing bottlenose dolphins in 2009. The film, originally rejected at the Tokyo Film Festival, was eventually shown due to public outcry, and has appeared in theaters in Japan. Residents in Taiji are being tested for mercury poisoning, and for the first time Japanese media are covering the issue.

Despite a 20-year moratorium on whaling they have yet to come back in any significant numbers. In the 1964-65 killing season 5 catcher fleets of Japanese whalers could not find a single blue whale. As a result the Japanese whalers rented out whaling base stations from Chile, the winter home of Antarctic Blues and wiped out every one they could find. Chile has recently declared all of their territory waters a whale sanctuary.

Evolved countries, such as Chile, prohibit the capture or confinement of cetaceans. Some countries, like Italy and Brazil, have banned interactive programs involving physical contact and public feeding. Increasingly, other countries are joining in, like the UK and Australia, and are phasing out captive dolphinarium displays.
 There are more than 200 captive dolphin exhibits in more than 60 countries today.

The Cove is on Instant Play through Netflix as well! It breaks my heart into little pieces. But knowledge really is power, and the more we know, the more we can stop this! I haven't been a big fan of places like Sea World for some time now. And every time I hear a story about how some stupid kid abuses animals in a Zoo and the animal that lashes out is the one to be killed...it makes me sick to my stomach.

Tales of the Weekend

{please ignore the cheese smile}

Last night i went out with the Shark to dinner and a movie. A LATE dinner and movie.
Ok let me tell you the tales of my heart attack!

So I am driving over there, belting out a sick tune {the newest Carrie Underwood} when I hang a u-turn to park the correct way out side his house when my {automatic}car stalls! Just stops! My steering wheel locked up, I am rolling forward towards these small children who are NOT paying attention. So I SLAM as hard as I can (WITH BOTH FEET) on my brake and flip it into reverse. Then, somehow still having any momentum at all I start to back into someones yard! This is when I put my emergency break on and sit. Sit in freaked out "WHAT THE HELL just happened" silence.
 I tried to restart the car and got NOTHIN! Twice!! I am literally two houses down from his.
 I call him. No answer.
I call him again. No answer.
 I text him
I call trusty bff Underwood to help me think what my next step is. Finally we decide
One: I need to calm the f down.
Two: the car isn't going anywhere..anymore.
Three: go get the shark and see if he can help.

UGH.
I clicked my way down the block to his house where he had just come outside and sees I am frazzled. He climbs in and starts it with no problem and pulls it into his driveway. He mixes me a slammin cranberry vodka and then we continue on with our night as planned.
 But Lordy!

Last Saturday this little guy and I {along with momma Underwood of course} went to party City to pick out birthday toys, treats, and themes. he picked a Pink cake and Dora. LOL We died. Then he settled on Toy Story and we bought it all and left the store before he changed him mind again. He is adorable.

{kind of a dark shot sorry}
yet another attempt at the "Bump" and to have better hair when I go out into public Saturday night...

yeah it ended up in a pony because it is hotter then blazes out here and my sista and I went to a bar/club that is inside/outside. yucko. sweaty-o
{also my butt looked GIANT in about three of the four pre shots!}

Sunday was my last day house/puppy sitting. So I spent the day cleaning up, and baking Welcome Home cupcakes in an attempt to decorate them like sunflowers.. mmmm not so sure how they turned out.. oh Well. They loved them and thats all that matters right :)

When we went out on Saturday night I decided to branch away from the normal beer I am usually seen slugging and try a Chocolate Martini. It was good! Strong but good!
 Then a bunch of dudes put their grubby little hands on it and I lost interest in the drink.

Yesterday I attempted some healthy blueberry and {my fav} blackberry bars.
Although they are very tasty, and I cut the sugar in it by about a fourth, they came out more of a crumble mess..and less like a bar... what can ya do right?

 I am sure I'll be trying this again.. after I eat the entire cake pan that it :) mmmmm cake.

All in all Ladies. I baked, cleaned, freaked and boogied down these last few days.. and each one of those days my hair has been done, make up on, and nails painted {no chips}
I'm feeling like a real big kid!

Thoughts Rollin Around

This is the adorable Ginger!
She is one of two dogs I am currently house sitting for. She has been a doll this entire week. She comes when I call, follows me like a good little shadow puppy does. She naps, plays and is a happy girl!
Until last night. Or should I say until 1am this morning, when Ginger apparently decided.. she hates me!
She barked non stop for four hours. I took her outside in the first five min of said barking thinking she simply needed to take care of business.
Nope!
Then I thought I'd put her in the "play pin" she stays in when I am at work.. maybe she just wanted to be out and play?
Nope!
Bark bark bark. Yip yip yip.
Then I thought.. perhaps she just wants to be near me?
silly silly mighty burns.. this was far from the truth. When she wasn't clawing at me, biting my fingers and toes, she was...
yup.
Barking...non.stop.
Oh don't get me wrong she also managed to chew on some of my clothes and shoes too!

This is why I now HATE Ginger.
Ok I don't hate her.. she has too cute a {slightly resembling an old mans face} face for a puppy. But I am very very disappointed in her. I also realized I could never have a child without help from someone.

I watched the end of Season Six of Grey's Anatomy the other night.
 And then I couldn't sleep. Because what kind of sick f'ed up stuff is that episode(s) all about! My goodness gracious! Give me a heart attack why don't you?! I mean I was sobbing crying. I turned lights on.
 I paced around with anxiety...to say I am involved in my shows is quite the understatement! I felt sick...and sad...and nervous..jittery...and felt like I wanted to call everyone that I love!

Thank goodness that part is over ;) now I am onto hunting down episodes of Season Seven!!
**~**

The other day when I described the burnt orange button up and lace mini skirt.. dude.. this is pretty much it!
I found it here who got it from here

*
So I have been thinking...who not wear dresses all of the time?
I think yes!

How pretty are these dresses paired with the colors leggings? Ummm LOVE it!

Also why can't I wear wedding dresses more casually? Is it really terribly vain to tell you that I HAVE tried them on.. and I am in fact NOT getting married..and I thought "Damn I look good in white?!"
Cuz I did.... and I do :/
It's a shame..thats all I'm sayin.

Like how cute would this be to wear to dinner with the girls? Or a Tea Party?
It's the dream!

However, this...

...is probably closer to what the reality of that dream would be. A bunch of chicks dressed up in their Wedding bliss best drinking beers and eating popcorn..
Who needs tea anyways?
(I like that Monica is wearing black socks with her dress bahaha!)

As always I have been swept away with picture of flowers...

Isn't this the perfect combination of oranges blues and whites? If you haven't already you should head over to An Apple A Days blog because it is always BEAUTIFUL!
Also she has a new site! yahoo!

Dreamy

Ok So when I get married {fingers crossed and all that} I would LOVE for Amy to do the flowers for the event. I love these colors so much! I love that everything is classic, romantic, and wild all at the same time, yet totally unified and cohesive in the arrangements. ugh. Perfection! I drool over this woman's work. She is a master at what she does {florist crush much}

Ok I am done gushing for today... p.s. do you have any idea how long it has been since I have received flowers? Too long dang it! Whats up with that ;)
